Jennifer Lawrence jokes about boyfriend Darren Aronofsky’s sanity

Director Darren Aronofsky, left, speaks as Jennifer Lawrence looks on during a press conference for “mother!” on day four of the Toronto International Film Festival at the TIFF Bell Lightbox on Sunday, Sept. 10, 2017, in Toronto.

Sure, Jennifer Lawrence thinks “mother!” is a good movie. But she also thinks her director boyfriend might be a little crazy because of it.

Lawrence, 27, has been in a year-long relationship with Darren Aronofsky, 48, who wrote and directed the upcoming psychological horror film.

Although both Lawrence and Aronofsky have remained mostly silent about their pairing, the two attended a press conference at the Toronto International Film Festival on Sunday, and discussed the work, according to Entertainment Weekly.

“It was an instant yes before I even read anything,” Lawrence, an Oscar winner and four-time nominee, said at the event. “He told me his ideas and I thought they were brilliant and unique and challenging. I’ve been a fan of his for years — I think he’s bold and brave, and I think I said brilliant.”

Then, according to, she added, “But I’ve been a fan, so once he told me the ideas floating around in his head I said yes. Then I got a script and when I read it I threw it across the room and told him he had severe psychological problems. But it’s a masterpiece.”

Jennifer Lawrence says that her “mother!” director and boyfriend Darren Aronofsky is “bold and brave,” along with a bit twisted.

“mother!” tells the story of a young woman (Lawrence) married to an older poet (Javier Bardem). Their tranquil peace is shattered when a mysterious couple (Ed Harris and Michelle Pfeiffer) arrive at their home.

The film also features Domhnall Gleeson, Brian Gleeson and Kristen Wiig.

Further, while details on the actress-director pair remain scarce — and they’ve avoided gushing about their affection — Lawrence did previously tell Vogue that Aronofsky’s personality meshes well with hers.

“I’ve been in relationships before where I am just confused. And I’m never confused with him.”

“mother!” is out Friday, Sept. 15.
